172 Graduate from Enfield High School in Historic Ceremony

ENFIELD, CT - Under a clear blue sky with abundant sunshine, 172 seniors made the traditional walk down the hill behind Enfield High School Wednesday evening, headed to the athletic stadium to become graduates.

Okay, maybe they didn't come directly down the hill due to ongoing reconstruction, but they did cut over from the winding driveway about halfway down the hill and proceeded the rest of the way across the grass practice fields, upholding a tradition that dates back decades.

Flag bearers Brandyn Bass and Chris Tweeddale and grand marshals Jessie Maier and J.T. LaPointe led the historic procession, followed by valedictorian Sarah Pawlowski, salutatorian Erika Murphy and the remainder of the Class of 2016, clad in white or green caps and gowns.

This year's class was the final group to graduate from the school as Raiders, with Aaron Zehren earning the distinction of being the final person ever to graduate from Enfield under that nickname. Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, the school will be consolidated with former crosstown rival Fermi, and will be known as the Eagles.
