Another Suspicious Fire Set in Enfield

This may be the fifth suspicious fire set in Enfield since November.

Enfield fire officials believe it may be another arson fire that was set early this morning.

Fire crews responded to 376 Elm Street around 4:30 a.m. for the report of a fire. This is the second time the home has been set on fire, WTNH News 8 reports. In November, four fires were set in one week. All of the homes were vacant at the time.

Enfield may have a possible serial arsonist as police are investigating the fourth suspicious fire in recent weeks that reportedly broke out early Wednesday.

According to NBC Connecticut, crews responded to fire at 394 Elm St. where a vacant building was found ablaze. According to WTIC, the fire was discovered about 4:30 a.m. by an officer that was patrolling the area.

The building is two houses down from a suspicious barn fire last week. No one was inside and no one was injured, according to the report.

It’s the fourth suspicious fire in the same neighborhood. On Nov. 6, a 3,000-square foot barn behind 390 Elm St. was destroyed by an early morning fire.

On Nov. 4, a vacant Martin Terrace home was damaged by a fire just before 3:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Hazardville Fire Department has issued this arson safety tips reminder for all Enfield residents:

Specific actions to help prevent possible arson

  • Remove overstuffed furniture from porches
  • Remove highly flammable items from outdoor areas close to your home, such as piles of leaves or yard waste, stacks of papers or recycling bins, and flammable liquids like gasoline.
  • Keep your home secure by locking all doors and windows, and keeping outdoor lighting on.

Tips to protect yourself, your family, and your home

  • Check to make sure your smoke alarms are working.
  • Have a home escape plan and discuss it your family, make sure you have to accessible exits from your home.
  • Pick a meeting place away from your home.
  • In the event of a fire, exit immediately. Do not stop to collect belongings.
  • Educate your children. They are likely to hide in a closet or under a bed during a fire if they haven’t been told what to do.
  • DO NOT REENTER A BURNING BUILDING FOR ANY REASON.
