Massachusetts State Police have several warrants for the man on armed robbery charges.

ENFIELD, CT - A man wanted in connection with multiple armed robberies in Massachusetts was taken into custody Wednesday night at an Enfield motel.

Around 9:30 p.m., Massachusetts State Police notified Enfield authorities they were pursuing a car containing Joseph Richey, 35, of Ludlow, southbound on Interstate 91, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

Massachusetts troopers lost sight of the vehicle as it crossed into Connecticut, and notified Enfield police they had information the suspect may be staying at the Red Roof Inn on Hazard Avenue, Deputy Chief Gary Collins said.

Enfield officers captured Richey at the motel and charged him with being a fugitive from justice. During the course of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of both heroin and cocaine, Collins said.

Richey told police he had arrived in Enfield via a stolen vehicle, which was later found behind a small empty commercial storefront on Enfield Street, next to the 360 Federal Credit Union, Collins said.
