SPRINGFIELD, MA — A major Massachusetts-based grocery chain with 35 locations in Connecticut announced Tuesday it will close all its stores Easter Sunday and the following Monday to give employees a "much-needed rest" amid the new coronavirus pandemic.

"We want to thank all of our retail heroes," Charles D’Amour, Big Y's president and CEO, said in a statement posted on the company's website. "We hope that this break will allow our employees to spend more time with their loved ones and give them much-needed rest."

All stores will be restocked and cleaned during the hiatus in preparation for reopening on Tuesday, April 14. Store hours will remain the same: from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. for seniors and individuals with compromised immune systems, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for all customers.
