ENFIELD, CT — Civic Leadership High School, a Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) school on Route 5 in Enfield, is among 22 Connecticut high schools being honored by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) with a 2020-2021 Michaels Achievement Cup Award.

Awarded to schools which take part in the CIAC’s Class Act program, the Michaels Cup recognizes exemplary athletic programs for their willingness to subscribe to the Class Act Sportsmanship standards, empowering students to take an active role in their school climate, and their continued support for community service.

"We are very proud of our student-athletes and coaches for earning this award," CREC Athletic Director Jonathan Winer said. "The Michaels Cup reflects our mission to provide our student-athletes with a meaningful experience that will enable them to be caring, compassionate members of society."

Civic Leadership principal Jeff Larson said, "Being a winner of the Michaels Cup is a huge honor. I know it is CREC and CLHS mission to always put sportsmanship first in all of its competitions. Building great student athletes on and off the field/court is something CREC has and will always strive for. What an honor."

The Michaels Cup was created in the early 1980s as the brainchild of Roy Michaels, owner of Michaels Jewelers, in an effort to recognize outstanding athletic programs.
