Dead Body Found in Enfield Identified

A stretch of roadway was closed for more than six hours while local and state police investigated the death.

ENFIELD, CT — Police have identified a body found dead on a Thompsonville street Monday morning, and the office of the state's chief medical examiner is investigating the cause of death, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

Police were called to Pearl Street, just south of the overpass of Route 190, around 6:10 a.m., where the body of Ronald Sweet, 33, was discovered partly in the street, Sferrazza said.

The Connecticut State Police major crime squad was called to the scene to assist with the investigation, but as the day progressed, evidence surfaced suggesting the death was likely caused by a heroin overdose. Police are not looking at the case as a homicide, Sferrazza said.
