Enfield Celebrities Dance For a Cause

Some of Enfield's brightest stars were shining Friday night in the Fermi High School auditorium, as participants in the first "Dance With the Town" benefit event exhibited some fantastic footwork.

Ten local personalities were paired up with area dance instructors for the competition, which was a benefit for the Enfield social services department.

A distinguished panel of judges consisted of dance studio owner David Potter; Asnuntuck Community College president Dr. Martha McLeod; Diane Saia, Ms. Connecticut/Senior America 2012; Enfield Town Council member Cindy Mangini; and Enfield Board of Education member Tom Sirard. Enfield Mayor Scott Kaupin was master of ceremonies.

After the judges narrowed the field to the top three teams, a dance-off was held, after which the winning duo was chosen by audience response.

The inaugural "Dancing With the Town" champions were the pairing of Kate Faherty and Rob McGurn. They danced a Lindy Hop to the tune of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," with each donning World War II-era costumes.

"I'm very excited, I really enjoyed this whole experience," Faherty, longtime Parent Educator for the Enfield Family Resource Center, said following the show. "I was very nervous going into it, but I felt really good on the stage and I had a great time dancing with Rob."

Runnerup was State Rep. David Kiner and Gina Rosati, who danced a Foxtrot to "Call Me Irresponsible." Third place went to Fermi assistant principal Yvette Santiesteban and John Nolan, who performed a Salsa routine to "High in All the Earth."

Other participants who dazzled the crowd were Parkman School teacher Janice Cerrato; Hazardville Memorial School principal Bonnie Mazzoli; Larry Dube of Educational Resources for Children; Karen Dardanelli of Asnuntuck Community College; Rich Tkacz of Rich's Oil, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning; and the husband-and-wife combination of Enfield Police Capt. Fred Hall and Enfield Town Council member Carol Hall.
