Enfield PZC Says 'Yes' To Car Show For Ukraine
Local Lutheran church to host event June 25 to help those impacted by Russia's invasion.
ENFIELD, CT — The local zoning board has given the OK for a church in town to conduct a car show later this month to benefit those impacted by Russia's brutal invasion in Ukraine.
The Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted 7-0 Thursday, June 9, to approve a special event application for the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer on North Street.
Proceeds from the car show, which the church does annually, will this year benefit victims in Ukraine by aiding Lutheran churches in several area countries there who are aiding Ukraine.

"This is just a benefit to help those people oversees," said Robin Myers of Enfield, who was representing the church at Thursday's PZC meeting.
"Everything we collect will go oversees to help people in need," added Jane Murray, also representing the church before the commission.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church's 20 North St. site.
Those showing custom vehicles will pay a $10 participation fee, while attendance to view the cars is free.
The church also plans to sell food and beverages on the site and it will conduct raffles, the proceeds of which will all benefit Ukrainian aid causes.
Myers and Murray indicated to the commission the $220 application fee was a big financial hit for the church and expressed surprise one was needed since they've had car shows before.
Zoning officials, though, told them in the future they could set aside the same approximate date of the year for the car show and they wouldn't have to come back to the PZC every year.
They did, however, say the fee could not be waived in this instance.
Meanwhile, some members of the PZC expressed extra enthusiasm for the event.
While asking for details about the show, Enfield PZC Alternate Vinnie Grillo explained why.
"I ask because I love car shows and I'll be there," Grillo said.
