ENFIELD, CT — Students in all Enfield schools will have the season's first traditional "snow day" Thursday, as a storm projected by the National Weather Service to dump a foot of snow on the town has prompted school officials to cancel the original plan of a remote learning day.

Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek issued an announcement that remote classes would not be held, citing the possibility of power outages and the need for a temporary break. Enfield students have been in remote learning mode since Monday, a schedule which is slated to continue through Jan. 8.

The complete message from the superintendent reads as follows:

Good afternoon,
This is Chris Drezek, Superintendent of the Enfield Public Schools with a message for the students, parents and staff of the Enfield Public Schools. Tomorrow, Thursday December 17th will be a traditional snow day and students and staff will not be expected to participate in remote learning. There will also not be any out-of-town busses tomorrow. I realize that last week I informed you that if there was inclement weather tomorrow, the district would switch to remote learning. However, with the magnitude of this impending storm, as well as the potential for power outages, I’ve made the decision to switch tomorrow to a more traditional snow day and give everyone a much-needed break. We will pick up remote learning again on Friday December 18th. I hope everyone takes the day to unplug and enjoy your normal snow day traditions.
