Enfield Store Clerk Faces Sex Assault Charges

The suspect reportedly touched the girl at the store and while attending a party.

An Enfield convenience store clerk who reportedly is a convicted sex offender is being held on new sexual assault charges.

Enfield police said Azhar Malik, 29, was arrested Sunday at Sam’s Food Store at Brainard and George Washington roads on charges fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and illegal sexual contact, according to WFSB. Malik reportedly is on the sex offender registry and has been convicted of sexual assault twice.

Police said they arrested Malik after investigating a 15-year-old girl reported there was sexual contact that occurred at the store and at a co-worker’s home, according to the report.

Police said Malik allegedly demanded hugs from the girl, touched her buttocks and breasts and followed her around at the co-worker’s house. The girl also reportedly told police she refused Malik’s offer of alcohol, that he tried to get her to sit on his lap and ignored her requests that he leave her alone.

According to the WFSB report, the girl told police the incidents occurred in August and she decided to contact police after seeing Malik allegedly driving in her neighborhood and became fearful that he would might approach her when she was home alone.

According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, Malik is being held on $100,000 and is scheduled to appear Oct. 20 in state Superior Court in Enfield.
