Saturday’s Enfield Invention Convention was a huge success! Approximately 130 students presented their inventions to over 40 judges and the public.
Inspiring speeches from U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney, Mayor Scott Kaupin, Chief Academic Officer Michelle Middleton, and EFEE President Shannon Grant highlighted the accomplishments of the students. Awards were given to 34 students from grades 1-7, who will proceed on to the state Connecticut Invention Convention on May 2nd in the Gampel Pavilion at UConn Storrs.

Additionally, 18 students received special recognition awards from community partner organizations. Student projects were creative, illustrated persistent thinking, and solved many of those problems that “bug you”. Examples include swim shorts containing magnets to repel sharks, a cup that uses a straw to distribute butter into popcorn container, and a variety of gloves and feeding devices designed to help pet owners. This event was a terrific celebration of Enfield’s educational focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).
Many thanks to the partner organizations, volunteers, and supporters, including Enfield Foundation for Excellence in Education, Educational Resources for Children, the Enfield Child Development Center, the Rotary Club of Enfield, United States Congressman Joe Courtney, Enfield Mayor Scott Kaupin, the Enrico Fermi High School custodial staff, Enfield Police Explorers Post 820, Picture Enfield, eTV, Photographers Jeff Bemiss and Denise Barns, all of the organizations and individuals who provided community awards, the many community leaders and staff who volunteered as judges, the high school student volunteers, the principals, teachers, parents, and supporters who attended the event, and the families who supported and assisted our young inventors.
