ENFIELD, CT — Christopher Bromson, who has served as Enfield town manager for the past two years and spent more than three decades as a town official, will retire effective Oct. 15, according to an announcement Monday at a virtual meeting of the Enfield Town Council.

Bromson, the longtime town attorney, was appointed acting town manager on May 29, 2018 following the sudden departure of Bryan Chodkowski. He was appointed to the full-time town manager position by the council in early September of that year.

"When I took the job, I said I would take it for two years, and it's been a little over that," Bromson said. "While there's no perfect time for a manager to leave, I think there's a right time, and this is the right time for us and for the town right now."

Since taking over the job, Bromson said more than 10 critical positions of department heads and deputy directors have been filled.

Bromson was appointed town attorney in the fall of 1989, serving in that capacity through 2008, with a short stint as acting town manager in 2005-06, and again from 2016 to 2018. In the interim, he spent eight years as director of public safety.

Human Resources Director Steve Bielenda said he will immediately get to work seeking Bromson's successor. The council voted unanimously to waive the usual bid requirement for town manager recruitment, and will again utilize the services of GovHR USA.
