Enfield Woman Accused of Defrauding Housing Agency

A police report indicates she underreported her income for two years in order to live in an Enfield Housing Authority property.

ENFIELD, CT — A local woman was charged with first-degree larceny Monday night on a warrant accusing her of living in public housing and lying about her income for about two years, police said.

Kosha Ebony Brown, 32, was charged with first-degree larceny via defrauding a public community, which is a felony. She was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond, and is slated to appear in Enfield Superior Court Feb. 5.

Brown is alleged to have resided at a property designated for low-income citizens under the auspices of the Enfield Housing Authority. She claimed her only income was through Social Security payments, but an investigation revealed she actually works at St. Francis Hospital, Police Chief Alaric Fox said.

An audit showed she had been living in the Housing Authority property for about two years, defrauding the agency of more than $13,000 aggregate value of benefits as a result of underreporting her income, Fox said.

Police logs indicate Brown had been arrested Saturday evening on charges of risk of injury to a child and sixth-degree larceny. No information about that case was immediately available.
