Move over Brownsville, Texas! Enfield is going to break your Guinness World Record of 1,223 Zumba® dancers at Family Day at the town green on September 18.
Healthy Enfield, a community-wide effort to improve the health, fitness and well-being of our residents, is behind the plan to set the world record. According to Social Services Director Pam Brown, Guinness has approved our attempt break the previous record. “We’re shooting for 2,000 participants,” she states.
Zumba is a Latin-inspired aerobic dance workout that has become popular for people of all ages around the world. The Guinness website says that the largest Zumba class is a much-requested category. The Brownsville record was set on April 30 of this year and stands as the number to beat.

Family Day is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Warm-up for the Zumba class will start at 1:30 in front of Higgins School. A group of Zumba instructors from throughout the area, organized by ML Fitness in Manchester, will lead the class. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to register and receive their official tags. Registration will be done only on the day of the event.
Judging for the record attempt will take place between 2:30 – 3:00. Participants will be allowed to take a break of a minute or two, but must remain active for the half hour. Those who lag or drop out will surrender their tags.
