A retired teacher and longtime member of the Connecticut General Assembly has been nominated to fill a Democratic seat on the council.

ENFIELD, CT — A longtime state representative has been nominated to fill a vacant seat on the Enfield Town Council after unanimous approval from the Democratic Town Committee at a special meeting at the North Thompsonville Fire Department Wednesday night.
Bill Kiner, a retired high school history teacher who served Enfield as the 59th District state representative for 16 years, was tapped to fill the council seat vacated by Tom Arnone, who begins work Thursday representing the 58th District in the General Assembly.
The nomination must be approved by a majority of the council, which is scheduled to meet Monday night. With Arnone's seat vacant, Republicans currently hold a 6-4 majority.

Kiner's son, David, who served on the council for four years before winning his dad's former House seat in 2010, said, "My parents taught me the importance of giving back to our community not only with their words but certainly by their actions. In my dad's case, it was/is public service. I know he’s going to do an amazing job on the Enfield Town Council continuing to do what I have always known him to do - fighting to make sure Enfield is the greatest town it can be."
