Folk Singer to Perform at Senior Center

All the latest news from the Enfield Senior Center.

Bill Florian, former lead singer of the New Christy Minstrels, brings an upbeat, energetic, musical journey through America’s greatest songs of the 60’s on Friday, May 20 at 5 p.m.  Bill performs songs made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary, John Denver, Pete Seeger and the Mamas and the Papas, as well as, uplifting originals presented with amusing stories.  Hear “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane,” “This Land is Your Land,” “Puff the Magic Dragon,” and “California Dreamin’.”  Enjoy a served dinner of Breast of Chicken Florentine, Oven Browned Red Potatoes, Fresh Seasonal Vegetables, and Strawberry Shortcake, Coffee or Tea.  Tickets for Dinner and Entertainment with Bill Florian of the New Christy Minstrels are on sale in the Senior Center office for $14 for Enfield residents and $15 for non-residents.

On Monday, May 2 at 6 p.m. a workshop will be held for anyone new to Medicare in the coming year or for anyone currently on Medicare looking for an overview of how it works and options that are available to them.  The presentation, Medicare Made Clear, starts with an overview of Part A, Part B, and Part D.  It reviews the options of supplements, advantage plans, and PDP plans and how these coverage’s differ.  There will also be information about ConnPace and Medicare Savings Programs which provide people with additional assistance with prescription drugs and Part B premiums if they qualify.  Nancy Petronio, of United Healthcare Medicare Solutions will present this overview and answer questions.  Please call the Senior Center office to reserve a spot. 

Many people have commented about how helpful our Medical Equipment Loan Closet is.  You can borrow walkers, bath transfer benches, elevated toilet seats, commodes, and other medical equipment from the Enfield Senior Center Medical Equipment Loan Closet free of charge for up to eight weeks.  Just ask at the front office for what you would like to borrow.

Every year we welcome spring by partnering with the Enfield Garden Club and their plant sale and the Enfield Lions Club Pancake Breakfast at the Enfield Senior Center Craft and Bake Sale.  It is a great social event with the added bonus of shopping and eating!  Make plans to join us on Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Drop in to have your questions answered at the Computer Help Open Session every Wednesday   8 to 10 a.m.  No question is dumb.  Maybe you are taking a class and need practice or you may have a question about your laptop, desktop or software.  Bring any question during this open forum and have it answered.  Everyone is welcome! 

Tickets to “Crazy ‘bout Patsy” are sold out.  No tickets will be sold at the door.

Free Advanced Bridge Lessons are being given for 8-weeks on Thursdays from April 21 through June 9 at 9 am.  If you would like to improve your game, challenge your mind and learn from a patient instructor, please sign up in the Senior Center office.  Participants must have some bridge knowledge.

The Hearing Loss Support Group will have a special meeting on Monday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m.  Everyone experiencing hearing loss is invited to attend.  Melissa Dennis, from the Connecticut Commission on the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, will talk about technology and assistive devices.  She will demonstrate some useful tools and answer questions.  

On Friday, April 29 from 9 to 11 a.m., Dr. Robert Marra will check your shoes, your walking and balance and evaluate your gait in a Complimentary Foot Screening sponsored by Johnson Memorial Hospital Falls Prevention Initiative.  Please call the Senior Center to schedule an appointment.
