Get Out! Bunnies, Books and Botanica

For the weekend of April 15-17

It’s finally the weekend, and after a work-filled week, it’s time to let your hair down and de-stress. We’ve taken the liberty of compiling some fun things for you to do with your family and friends.

1. Enfield Author at Barnes & Noble

About: Local author, Cindy Ruvolo Lurie will read her new book, Carolyn and Her Tiny Red House for story time. She will answer questions and hold a book signing afterwards. All ages welcome.

Where/When: Enfield Public Library—104 Middle Road—April 15 at 1 p.m.

About: Director Martin Durkin explores the idea that everything you’ve been told about global warming is probably untrue. The film argues against the idea that global warming is caused by humankind.

3. Momix: Botanica

Where/When: Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts—2132 Hillside Road, Storrs, CT—April 15 and 16 at 8 p.m.

About: The Connecticut-based dancer-illusionists will perform their natural mystery tour, Botanica. Contemporary dance Moses Pendleton has created a lush testimony to fertility using props, lighting, dance and humor with a wide-ranging score.

Price: $34-$45

4. Photos with The Children’s Museum’s resident bunnies

Where/When: The Children’s Museum—950 Trout Brook Drive, West Hartford, CT—April 17 from 12 to 2 p.m.

About: Get your Easter pictures taken with Spotty and Chico, the rabbits that live in the wildlife sanctuary. Cindy King, director of the Wildlife Sanctuary, would like to remind parents that rabbits and baby chicks are more challenging to take care of than many people expect, and are not good Easter presents because many of the animals end up abandoned.

Price: Donation of $2 to support wildlife sanctuary animals or a contribution of pet food for the animals in the museum’s wildlife sanctuary (dry rabbit food, dry chinchilla food, dry ferret food, canned dog food and dog treats).

5. Ken Mehler at Chicago Sam’s

Where/When: Chicago Sam’s Sports Bar & Grille—95 Elm St.—April 15 at 10 p.m.

About: Come out and see Ken Mehler, a self-made musician, play a special acoustic set.
