The Enfield Senior Center offers some great classes to start your new year. If you have always wanted to try tap dance, Beginner Tap is offered on Wednesdays at 11:45. Laughter Yoga is a fun way to exercise. Everyone can do it because it doesn’t involve getting on the floor or postures. You receive health benefits, increase your energy, and Laughter Yoga helps you to feel more relaxed and happy. Try it. Introduction to Scrapbooking is a basic class for those who want to learn how to organize photos, crop, and mat pictures and use tools and embellishments. What a great winter activity! Learn the basics of the computer in a relaxed, supportive environment with our SeniorNet Leaning Center computer classes. Learn Word, Picasa, or e-mail. Make a New Year’s Resolution to try something new this winter.
Because of the storm and power outage, we had to postpone the Holiday Craft and Bake Sale. Volunteers and staff worried that attendance might not have been as great because of the move. Amazingly, it was even better! The 2011 Holiday Craft and Bake Sale made $5,125.94 to benefit Senior Center programs. The craft volunteers and Program Coordinator Nancy Darrah worked so hard to make this event so enjoyable and profitable. Thanks to the volunteers and to all who came out to support us!
If you have attended some of the Enfield Senior Center musical events, you know that they are top quality. The events planned for 2012 are the same caliber. Our first entertainment event of 2012 is on Thursday, January 5, at 6 p.m., and you will not want to miss this exciting event. “The SHOW” is a Motown show band singing and dancing to songs of the original artists like the Temptations, The Four Tops, The Spinners, Smokey Robinson, the Miracles and many more. Enjoy songs like “My Girl,” “Ain’t No Woman like the One I’ve Got,” and “Baby, I Need Your Loving.” Coffee and dessert will be served at intermission. Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $7 per person. Keep the date open for Friday, February 17, at 6 p.m. because the lead singer of The Drifters, Linwood Peel, with a full band will be entertaining. The Drifters hits include, “Under the Boardwalk,” “Stand by Me,” and “Save the Last Dance for me,” as well as many others. You don’t need to drive to the casino this winter for quality entertainment. It is right here in Enfield!
