Great Entertainment Lined Up at Senior Center

The Enfield Cultural Arts Commission is sponsoring a concert on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Concert Pianist Paul Bisacccia at the Enfield Senior Center.  Paul Bisaccia has performed around the world and his particular specialty is the music of George Gershwin, although his repertoire is wide ranging. Admission is $7 per person at the door.  The doors open at 1 p.m.

If you enjoy country music, you won’t want to miss “An Evening of Nashville Sounds” on Thursday, November 3, at 6 pm.  The incredible vocals and the guitar strummin’ of Ray Scott and his country music show highlight music of Hank Williams and Eddie Arnold through today’s big names like Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson.  Tickets for this event, with dessert and coffee, are on sale in the Senior Center office for $7 per person.

Don’t forget to register for November and December classes.  Resident registrations are being taken now and non-resident registration begins Tuesday, October 18, at 8:30 a.m.  The November issue of Front & Center, the Senior Center newsletter, should be arriving in your homes shortly and is available online now.  It includes a new lunchtime Zumba Gold class, Tap Dancing, another session of Laughter Yoga and many exciting special events.

The final Flu Clinic is October 19, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Drop in to have your flu shot.  No appointment is required.

Enfield native Gary Sredzienski brings Polish folk music to the Enfield Senior Center for a special performance, on Thursday, October 27, at 1 p.m., arranged by Sophie Krycz.  Spend the afternoon with the sounds of accordionist Gary Sredzienski and enjoy a Polish food tasting after the performance.  Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $2 per person.  The tickets are going fast!

Eat your way to health with a heart healthy diet.  Find out how simple it can be by attending our Heart Healthy Eating Seminar on November 2, at 1 p.m.  Please register in advance by calling the Senior Center office.

Gluten-free living can be challenging at times.  Join Michelle Smith, a Registered Dietitian from ShopRite in Enfield, to form a Gluten-Free Support Group.  Meetings will be held the first Wednesday of every other month at the Enfield Senior Center.  The next meeting of this group will be Wednesday, November 2, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  To reserve your spot or to learn more about this group, please RSVP to Michelle directly at 860-253-4173 or email Michelle at michelle.smith@wakefern.com

Get into the Holiday spirit a little early this year by shopping for unique, handmade and reasonably priced holiday gifts at our Holiday Craft Fair and Bake Sale on Saturday, November 5, from 8 am to 1 pm. Browse through an array of decorations, ornaments, household treasures, jewelry, hand-knitted scarves, sweaters, mittens and more.  After picking up items for others on your list, then treat yourself by bringing home a delicious homemade cake, some cookies or other sweet treats.

The Lions Club will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 5, from 8 am to Noon, in conjunction with our Holiday Craft Fair.  All proceeds from the breakfast will be used for community programs.

Word on Wheels, Notary Services, Online Tutorials - these are just a few of the services the Enfield Public Library provides to Enfield residents.  Join us on Monday, November 7, at 5 pm for an informative presentation entitled “What Your Public Library Can Do For You”.  Please register in advance by calling the Senior Center office.

Consider volunteering as an instructor in our SeniorNet Learning Center.  We offer classes for a wide range of abilities.  If you can teach a facebook or iPad class, we could use the help.  You may even consider coaching a class.  The coach assists any students who need a little extra help.  Do you have prior office experience?  If so, and you’re interested in volunteering a few hours a week, we’re looking for a few friendly faces for our Front Office.  Inquire at the Senior Center for more details.
