Happy New Year From the Enfield Senior Center

Plenty of happenings upcoming in 2012.

Happy New Year! I hope you will make a New Year’s Resolution to visit the Enfield Senior Center.  Improve your health with an exercise class or fitness center membership, socialize with friends, enjoy a lunch or learn new crafts or computer skills.  Happy 2012!  Best wishes for a great year.

Tickets are still available for our first entertainment event of 2012.  On Thursday, January 5, at 6 p.m., “The SHOW”, a Motown show band will be singing and dancing to songs of the original artists like the Temptations, The Four Tops, The Spinners, Smokey Robinson, the Miracles and many more.  Enjoy songs like “My Girl,” “Ain’t No Woman like the One I’ve Got,” and “Baby, I Need Your Loving.”  Coffee and dessert will be served at intermission.  Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $7 per person.

If you have not seen the movie, “The Help,” you have an opportunity on Thursday, January 12, for Movie and Turkey Grinder Night.  The meal is served at 5 p.m. and the tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $5.  If you would like to see the movie only, it begins at 6 p.m. and the tickets are $2.  Please purchase dinner/movie tickets in advance.

The AARP Tax-Aide program will begin on February 1.  Appointments are now being taken in the Senior Center office for Mondays and Wednesdays until April 11.  Trained volunteers help to complete Federal and State income tax returns at no charge for those who are 60 years and older.  Schedule an appointment and then bring last year’s Federal and State tax returns, all original documents for taxes, W-2s, 1099s and Town property bills for your house and/or car, and Social Security statements.

One of our exciting trips for 2012 is the Bermuda Cruise on May 27 to June 3, 2012.  An informational meeting on this trip will be on Friday, Jan. 13, at 2 pm.  This will be your opportunity to gather information on this luxury cruise to the pristine island of Bermuda.

Jaime Ingaran, Evening Program Coordinator, is putting together a cookbook for the spring.  She would love to include some of your favorite warm weather recipes.  Please drop off a copy of a recipe at the front desk. Jaime will compile the recipes and sell copies of the collection in the gift shop for $2.  Some of the best recipes can be found in local cookbooks.

The Enfield Senior Center classes are not held when the Enfield Public Schools are closed due to snow.  If there is a weather delay, however, our programs go on as usual.  Information about closings can be found on WFSB and you may also wish to call the Senior Center to verify closings.

We are tidying up our newsletter mailing list.  If you, or someone you know, does not want to receive the Enfield Senior Center newsletter, Front & Center, please let us know.  We can save money on the postage and be “green” by only sending the newsletter to Enfield residents who want to receive it.  Thanks for your help.
