Jazz and Country Performances Coming to the Senior Center

All the latest news from the Enfield Senior Center.

The jazz band, S’fere, made up of local residents, has been practicing at the Enfield Senior Center once a week.  They have offered to perform a free outdoor summer concert on Thursday, June 21, beginning at 6 p.m.  Bring a picnic lunch or something cool to drink and a comfortable lawn chair and enjoy a warm night of cool jazz.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside.  Join us for an evening of Jazz in the Gazebo.

Donna Lee and the Crooked Ledge Band will bring your country and rockabilly favorites to the Enfield Senior Center on Thursday, June 7, at 6 p.m.  Donna Lee performs songs made famous by Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash.  Dessert and coffee will be served at intermission.  Tickets are on sale for $7 per person.

The Enfield Police Union and the Police Benevolent Association is hosting a Senior Picnic on Friday, June 15, at 12 pm.  Come enjoy a hot dog or hamburger cooked by dedicated members of the Enfield Police Department.  Entertainment will be sponsored by the Enfield Senior Center.  Pick up your ticket for this free event at the Senior Center front desk.  Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair!

There has been a change on the date of the Movie & Turkey Grinder Night.  The movie, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close will be shown on Thursday, June 28 rather than Thursday, June 21. 

Connecticut Multispecialty Group will sponsor a free Oral Cancer Screening on Tuesday, June 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Ten minute appointments are available by calling the Senior Center office.

Kindles, iPads and Nooks, oh my!  “Are Tablet Computers for Me?”  What do they do?  Presenters from Express Verizon Wireless will be here to provide information on tablet computers and answer any questions you may have.  Don’t miss out on this informative discussion on Wednesday, June 6, at 1 pm.

We are planning a fun-filled day to the beautiful Saratoga Racetrack on Wednesday, August 8.  Board a luxury motor coach for a relaxing ride to Saratoga where you’ll have an opportunity to view the races from your reserved grandstand seats.  On the way home we’ll stop at Grandma’s Restaurant in Albany, NY for an enjoyable dinner.  Cost is $86 per person.  Sign up for this trip on Friday, June 8, at 10 am.

Registration for July and August programs will begin on Tuesday, June 12, at 8:30 am for residents and Tuesday, June 19, for non-residents.  Registrations will continue to be taken after that date, until classes are filled.

Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteers to deliver the noon meal to Enfield residents. There is a mileage stipend of 40 cents per mile.  Call 860-763-0400 for more information.
