LETTER: Enfield Teachers Back Arnone, Calnen For State Rep

ENFIELD, CT — Representative Tom Arnone has dedicated much of his adult life to public service. His four terms on the Enfield Town Council provided experience in electoral politics and his founding of the children’s charity Kids First demonstrates that his heart is in the right place. Tom has made an impact in his first term at the Capitol, serving as a member of the Public Health, Planning and Development, and Regulations Review Committees. Tom is now the Assistant Majority Leader of the House. Tom is a leader and a consensus builder. His thoughtful manner is a needed remedy to the politics of division. Representative Arnone works for all residents of Enfield.

Dr. Gerald Calnen was a pediatrician and health advocate in Enfield for over 30 years. Dr. Calnen’s lifetime experience of helping children has shaped his informed policy positions on Universal Pre-K, early childhood care, affordable medical care, and mental health care. It is obvious that “Jerry” values the wellness of our community members and realizes that better health and security will promote higher performance and greater productivity. In other words, an Enfield that thrives. When elected, Dr. Calnen will protect our community’s well-being.

The combined efforts of these two individuals at the Capitol will help the Enfield community through a very difficult time. Every resident of Enfield is being challenged with living through a global pandemic, historic social unrest, and divisive political ideology. As educators, not only do we manage the lives of our own families, but we also work with children from all families in the community. We believe that if families experience a greater sense of care, security, and leadership from their elected officials, children will come to school better prepared to succeed.

We must elect Representative Arnone and Dr. Calnen in order to prioritize these ideals.
