Police Standoff Ends In Enfield; Suspect Identified [UPDATED]

The standoff with a barricaded person involved shots being fired by the suspect, police said.

ENFIELD, CT — Police serving "a high risk warrant" at a Shaker Road home encountered a barricaded suspect, resulting in shots being fired during a standoff that ended shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief Alaric Fox identified the suspect as Donald Moody, whom Fox believed to be in his early 50s. He was taken into custody around 6:05 a.m.

Portions of Shaker Road and North Maple Street were closed due to callout of a SWAT team. Shaker Road was closed from Bacon Road to Candlewood Drive, while North Maple Street was closed between Armstrong and Moody roads, police said.

North Maple Street was reopened around 6:35 a.m., and Shaker Road reopened at 7:07 a.m., police said.

"We are comfortable the concern for public safety has passed," Fox said.

No injuries were reported, according to police.

School officials used the town-wide notification system to inform parents that some buses may be delayed due to the police activity.
