Stabbing Attempt Leads to Felony Charges Against Enfield Man

Warrants were served Wednesday on a man stemming from a pair of recent incidents, one involving an attempted stabbing.

ENFIELD, CT — A local resident already in Department of Correction custody on an unrelated case was brought to Enfield Superior Court Wednesday and served with a pair of warrants stemming from two incidents which occurred in August and September.

Jose Padro, 29, of 43 Asnuntuck St., Apt. 3, was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, charging less than $500 on a revoked payment card, receipt of goods from an illegally used credit card, illegally taking a payment card and criminal impersonation.

On Aug. 25, police were informed a wallet had been taken from a vehicle in the area of the Angelo Lamagna Activity Center on North Main Street. The victim was contacted by a credit card company, stating the card had been used to purchase $13.28 worth of merchandise at nearby Caronna's Package Store on Pearl Street, Deputy Police Chief Gary Collins said.

Exactly a month later, on Sept. 25, police were dispatched to a disturbance on South Street, where a resident said Padro had broken into a home and stuffed a backpack with sneakers, loose change and other items. A fight ensued in the living room, where Padro is alleged to have unsuccessfully attempted to stab the victim with a screwdriver before fleeing, Collins said.

Police reviewed surveillance videos taken at the liquor store and at the South Street residence, and positively identified Padro in both, Collins said.
