The case stems from the March 18 death of 12-year-old Eve Rogers at an Elm Street home in Enfield. Police, firefighters and EMS crews were called to the home that morning for a report of an unresponsive female, and first responders confirmed the girl had died at the scene.
Federline was arrested April 2. Police have identified him as the girl’s stepfather.

According to the arrest warrant, investigators found pills in the girl’s bedroom and also observed signs of sexual assault. The next day, a sexual assault evidence collection exam was performed, and police later collected DNA samples from family members and from Federline.
In court Monday, prosecutors said the girl had been sexually assaulted and that Federline’s semen was found near her genital area.
Federline had also been working as a bus driver for Enfield Public Schools through Smyth Bus, the district’s contracted transportation provider. After his arrest, Smyth Bus said it immediately terminated his employment, and school officials said counseling and support services would be made available for anyone in the school community affected by the news.
