Support Groups Share Their Feelings

All the latest news from the Enfield Senior Center.

Sometimes you feel like you are the only one going through a rough time.  The support groups at the Enfield Senior Center can provide a place to share your feelings.  Groups include Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support, Bereavement Support, Diabetes Support, Gluten-Free Support, Stroke Support and Hearing Loss Support.  If you are dealing with any of these issues, being a part of a group can help.  For dates and times of meetings, check the Senior Center newsletter, “Front & Center”, call the Senior Center office, or look online at www.enfield-ct.gov and click on Senior Center.

Don’t forget to get tickets to the February 17, Linwood Peel’s Tribute to the Drifters. Linwood Peel and his band bring back the music that made the Drifters famous.  Listen and dance to “Under the Boardwalk,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “This Magic Moment,” and “Up on the Roof.”  Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $7 per person.

We are planning an evening of local entertainment at The Enfield Senior Center Talent Showcase for May 4.  If you sing, play an instrument, dance, or have any other talent you would like to share this spring, call Robin at 860-698-9392.

The AARP Tax-Aide program will begin on February 1.  Appointments are now being taken in the Senior Center office for Mondays and Wednesdays until April 11.  Trained volunteers help to complete Federal and State income tax returns at no charge for those who are 60 years and older.  Schedule an appointment and then bring last year’s Federal and State tax returns, all original documents for taxes, W-2s, 1099s and Town property bills for your house and/or car, and Social Security statements.

Don’t miss out on our day trip to the elegant Simsbury Inn for a Valentine’s Day Luncheon on February 14.  The Simsbury Inn blends the casual comforts of country hospitality with the refinements of modern style.  During lunch you’ll be swooned by the romantic ballads of Joe Pererra.  Cost is $75/pp.  Reservations are being accepted at this time at the Senior Center front desk.

The Enfield Senior Center classes are not held when the Enfield Public Schools are closed due to snow.  If there is a weather delay, however, our programs go on as usual.  Information about closings can be found on WFSB and you may also wish to call the Senior Center to verify closings.

We are tidying up our newsletter mailing list.  If you, or someone you know, does not want to receive the Enfield Senior Center newsletter, Front & Center, please let us know.  We can save money on the postage and be “green” by only sending the newsletter to Enfield residents who want to receive it.  Thanks for your help.
