Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark that is no longer in town through publication of old advertisements from some 1960s-1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.

Today's offering is a bit different, as the featured business is still in existence, just in another town and state.

In perusing the 1985 Fermi High School yearbook, we came across an ad from one of the few formalwear shops in town at that time, College Formals.

Located near the Massachusetts border on Route 5, the shop specialized in tuxedo and gown rentals for weddings, proms and other special occasions. The Enfield store was actually a second location, which closed in the early 2000s; the main site at 138 Memorial Avenue in West Springfield, Mass. is still thriving.

Enfield Patch invites readers to share their memories in the comments section below.
