Town Council Approves Continuing Enfield's School Guard Program

The plan to keep armed guards in town schools for two more years now goes before the Board of Education.

By a vote of 6-5 Monday night, the Enfield Town Council approved a plan to keep armed guards assigned to all public and private schools for another two years.

It’s now up to the Board of Education to decide whether to continue the program that was instituted in September 2013, following the Sandy Hook School massacre in December 2012, according to The Courant.

Town officials also are continuing their discussion on revising the school security program which could include assigning more school resource officers to the schools rather than having the armed security guards, according to the report.
