Town Council Member Receives Enfield's Republican of the Year Award
Donna Szewczak served on the Enfield Board of Education before being elected to the Town Council.

ENFIELD, CT - Town Councilor Donna Szewczak was presented Enfield’s Republican of the Year award at the GOP’s Lincoln Day dinner March 18 at the Skyline Restaurant in Windsor Locks.
Each year the seven Republican Town Committees of the 7th State Senatorial District (Granby, East Granby, Windsor, Windsor Locks, Somers, Suffield and Enfield) come together to thank and honor a special person among their ranks for dedicated service to their respective community.
Szewczak says she got involved with the local Republicans because she was concerned Enfield’s children weren’t getting all they deserved for the funding being spent at the time.

“I believe the only way for a child to succeed in life is to have all the tools necessary to get the best education. That support sets them up to move forward into adulthood able to make good decisions for a lifetime,” she said.
Along with her husband, Richard, she owns Szewczak Associates, a structural engineering firm that serves architects, builders, and government clients throughout New England. Her expertise has been well utilized on Enfield’s elementary and middle school expansion building committee. This team completed a 9-school upgrade that included libraries, cafeterias, and gymnasiums. The project was proudly concluded in 2005 on-time and under-budget.

Now in her third term on the Enfield Town Council, Szewczak is currently one of two liaisons to the Enfield High School building committee, where she is continues to advocate for a high-quality, highly-efficient facility and features at Enfield’s new state-of-the-art high school complex, itself on track to be completed on-time this autumn. She is also the liaison to the Clean Energy committee, the Council’s DPW subcommittee, and the North Central District Health Department.
Outside of politics, she has been a member of the Hazardville Institute Conservancy Society, a member of the Parish Community of Saint Patrick and Saint Adalbert, and a do-it-yourself weekend warrior who is restoring a historic home in Hazardville.
Mayor Scott Kaupin said, “Donna has been a superb addition to the Town Council. Her background as a substitute teacher and former Board of Ed member, and her experience with finance, the building trades, and historic preservation have helped Enfield stay on top of its goals and become more responsive and nimble.”
“Donna’s passion for Enfield and her commitment to improve our town is evident with every decision she makes. She’s very thoughtful and never shies away from a good debate of the issues, too. Donna’s colleagues on the Enfield Town Council join me in congratulating her on receiving this very well deserved recognition,” Kaupin continued.
