CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, ESSEX, CT — Tasked with providing educational leadership for the entire school system while simultaneously working to promote the success of all staff and students, Kristina Martineau will become Westbrook’s new school superintendent on Dec. 1, moving on from her assistant superintendent position at the Region 4 School District.

“It really is a dream job, and I cannot wait to officially begin," said Martineau, who served in several positions in the Region 4 district, including both assistant principal and principal of Valley Regional High School and as assistant superintendent of schools for the past six years.

“While I am excited to begin my service for Westbrook Public Schools as the Superintendent, it is not without some sadness that I depart the tri-town community that has been home for so many years. I am incredibly grateful to the Chester, Deep River, Essex and Region 4 Boards of Education, our leadership team, staff, and families for more than 12 years of support and partnership to continually improve education for all students in our three communities,” said Martineau, who began her career as an English teacher at Fairfield Warde High School in Fairfield.

"I am very excited to become a member of the Westbrook school’s family and community. It is an incredible honor and privilege to work in a community that is engaged and committed to high-quality educational opportunities for all students,” said Martineau. “I love the size of the community and district. It suits my leadership approach and will allow me to fully invest in relationships with staff, students, families and community members in a way that is a meaningful, constructive, and collaborative partnership in service to children, families, and the Westbrook community. The structure and size allow me to truly be a community superintendent and to become a part of the Westbrook family.”

She added, “Over the years, I have built long-lasting relationships and friendships that have had a profound impact on me as a leader and as a person. I will always consider [Chester, Deep River and Essex] a cherished and valued part of my life and journey as an educational leader. It has been an honor and privilege to serve the schools and communities, and I am also grateful to Superintendent Brian White, who joined Region 4 Schools a year and a half ago. He has been a wonderful mentor and colleague. Superintendent White is a reflective, systems thinker who has made critical improvements in operations, finances, processes, and communication. I have very much enjoyed working with him and growing as a district leader. I look forward to creative, forward-thinking regional collaboration for many years to come."
