Chester To Get Funds From The Passing Of The American Rescue Plan

How will the passing of The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 impact the town of Chester?

CHESTER, CT — During the March 10, Chester Board of Selectman meeting, First Selectwoman Lauren Gister spoke briefly about the passing of The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and how it may impact the town positively.

"This is good news!" said Gister, who explained that as part of the $1.9 trillion stimulus plan, the town of Chester, (like many others) will get money as part of state and local funding for recovery. The money will be broken up by population. Initially, the estimated amount of money Chester would receive was somewhere around $400,000, however, that number is not concrete at this time, just an estimate.

The money is not a short-term funding source, it is through calendar year 2024 and Gister explained that the town may see a portion of that money as soon as within the next 90 days.

"We don't know what the guidance will be for how we can use the money," Gister said. "I'm assuming it will be very regulated. I'm looking forward to getting more guidance details within the next two to three weeks."
