CHESTER, CT — Keith Dauer and Sandy Senior-Dauer are working on our summer exhibit featuring Chester women, c. 1870-1920 (up to the time when women got the vote). The exhibit will be titled, “Women before the vote but ahead of their time." Individual women, as well as groups (factory workers, immigrants, librarians, teachers, etc.), will be included. We are still in need of stories, objects, pictures from this time period, so please contact the Dauers (526-2331) if you have any of those OR other suggestions. Thanks!

The historical societies of Chester, Deep River and Essex announce Part 2 of "Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Achievements" is uploaded on our YouTube pages. Titled "Expanding Rights, Expanding Roles, 1950-1999," this installment focuses on the women in our tri-town area who made a difference during the last half of the 20th century. They led community organizations, held public office and sought employment outside the home in some non-traditional ways, among many other contributions to our area. With a soundtrack of mid-20th century popular hits, the video was assembled by Jon Claude Haines of Sea Robin Tech. Go to our website (chesterhistoricalsociety.org) and click on the films page.
