🌱Chester Town Meeting + Think About Reusing When School Shopping
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Essex-Chester-Deep River.
Good morning, everybody! It's Sunday in Essex-Chester-Deep River and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening in town.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and humid. High: 84 Low: 67.
Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:
- With the first day of school just around the corner, many parents are in the midst of taking their children back to school shopping. However, the town of Essex is reminding residents to "rethink how you purchase your child's school supplies and reuse what you can from last year." According to a recent Facebook post on the town's site, "While it might feel good to start the school year off with all new stuff, such as clothing, binders, folders, pens and pencils, think about what a waste it is. All that stuff uses the earth's resources — trees, water, energy, etc. If you do have to buy new stuff, make an effort to buy supplies made from recycled content, such as pencils made from newsprint." Saving resources and using what you already have are great ways to help the environment as well as your pocketbook! (Town of Essex via Facebook)
- Connecticut public middle and high school students have a chance to win a $1,000 #LoCoolGov Youth Scholarship simply by explaining what's cool about the local government. This year's winners will be invited to attend the final gubernatorial debate before the election! Sponsor Post University!
