COVID-19 Case Updates for Towns

Important information about Covid-19 cases in Essex, Chester, Deep River, as well as surrounding towns.

ESSEX, CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, CT — The following is information from a town-wide e-mail that went out to the town of Chester:

COVID-19 Case Updates for Towns

While the COVID-19 vaccination effort in Connecticut is moving forward strongly, we need to keep an eye on community spread. Until large numbers of the population are vaccinated, which will come in the near future, local town-based spread is still possible and could harm individuals’ health; East Hampton, for instance, has seen an average of four new cases of COVID-19 each day in the last two weeks, with at least one death resulting in that time.

COVID-19 cases can lag behind spread of disease, so presence of community spread gives us reason to remain masked and distanced in the next few weeks. Based on Department of Public Health estimates reported March 4, COVID-19 levels in local towns include:

  • Chester: 4 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with slight increase seen in second week and average of 8.5 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Clinton: 68 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with slight increase seen in second week and average of 37.5 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Colchester: 31 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with decline seen in second week and average of 13.9 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Deep River: 14 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with decline seen in second week and average of 22.4 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Essex: 14 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with decrease seen in second week and average of 23.5 infections per 100,000 residents
  • East Hampton: 44 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with decrease in second week and average of 24.5 infections per 100,000 residents
  • East Haddam: 19 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with slight decrease seen in second week and average of 15.1 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Haddam: 17 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with increase seen in second week and average of 14.8 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Lyme: 5 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with slight increase seen in second week and average of 15.3 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Old Saybrook: 25 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with increase seen in second week and average of 17.7 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Portland: 15 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with increase seen in second week and average of 11.5 infections per 100,000 residents
  • Westbrook: 55 cases reported from February 14 to February 27 with slight increase seen in second week and average of 56.8 infections per 100,000 residents
