Covid-19 Positive Case At Valley Regional High School

Although vaccines are being ramped up in the state, the Covid-19 virus is not giving up anytime soon. A positive case at VRHS impacted 19.

DEEP RIVER, CT — A letter went out Monday to the Valley Regional School Community notifying them that a positive COVID-19 case has impacted the school. The last date the individual attended VRHS was April 1, 2021.

This case impacts 19 additional students at Valley Regional High School. The administration has notified families of students who had verified close contact with the known positive case. All individuals who had close contact with the known case will also be contacted by local health departments. Valley Regional High School will resume in-person learning on Tuesday, April 6th.

According to Superintendent of Schools Brian White, "Due to our most current contact tracing and quarantine protocol for Valley Regional High School (shared with families on January 29th defining "close contact" as staff or students who have been within 6 feet of the positive case during any class or lunch period. Those individuals require a 10 day quarantine period from school and 14 days from school sports) fewer people were identified as close contacts."

He added, "In the most recent case, impacting 19 people at Valley today, only students were found to be meet the definition of a close contact and no faculty or staff were impacted."

White also debunked the rumor that an entire spring sports team was taken out by this positive Covid-19 case. "There were no entire teams impacted by this latest quarantine and due to the way spring athletic practices are being structured, in accordance with guidance from the health department, we are hopeful that we will see minimal impact on spring athletics due to the need to quarantine," said White, who thanked the Connecticut River Area Health District (CRAHD) for their efforts to support faculty and staff with the vaccination process. "We are very pleased that so many of our faculty and staff have had the opportunity to receive their vaccinations and that some of our students are eligible as well."
