Environmental Tip From The Chester Conservation Commission
Balloons and plastic bags can be dangerous, if not disposed of properly.
CHESTER, CT — Environmental tip from the Chester Conservation Commission:
Last week the tip was about the dangers of wayward balloons in the water. This week, the Commission pivots to warn about how balloons, as well as stray plastic bags, pose dangers to animals and humans on land.
Pilots, right here at Chester airport, can be put in great danger if they run into wayward balloons. In addition, owls and other birds can get entangled in the broken strings, which can damage their wings. Balloons and plastic bags also create unsightly litter in trees and bushes.

One possible solution is to take plastic bags back to grocery stores for recycling, and we should all be more aware of the dangers to the natural world posed by balloons.
