ESSEX, CT — According to a Facebook post from the Town of Essex – Government, there have been concerning reports of vehicles speeding, rolling through stop signs and not giving way to pedestrians in Essex.

"Many residents are outside walking on a daily basis and we have had some concerning reports of vehicles speeding, rolling through stop signs, and not giving way to pedestrians in the Essex Village area. Drivers must come to a full stop at a stop sign and must yield to pedestrians. Police are on the lookout for crosswalk and stop sign violators.

- Drivers must slow or stop to allow a pedestrian to cross if they have stepped up to the curb by a marked crosswalk or stepped directly into the crosswalk.
- Drivers must also yield if the pedestrian has started to cross the road.
- If you approach a vehicle that has stopped to let a pedestrian cross, you are not allowed to pass them.
