Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. Chester Food Program for Chester residents only is held each week at the Town Hall parking lot on Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Fresh local produce, eggs, meat, dairy, pantry stables and more are available. (Chester Food)
  2. Do you enjoy kayaking or canoeing? Would you like to explore Essex's North Cove and Falls River Cove? Join the Essex Land Trust for its kayak/canoe adventure on August 13 at 11 a.m. at Bushnell Street Landing to explore Essex's North Cove and Falls River Cove with avid kayaker and Essex Land Trust President Jeff Croyle. Enjoy expansive views of Essex's Great Meadow, largely preserved by the Essex Land Trust and learn about the industry, including shipbuilding, located in Falls River Cove during the 18th and 19th centuries. Plan to arrive early to sign a waiver and launch your kayak/canoe for a timely departure. A safety boat will accompany. Launch at Bushnell Street launch landing at the foot of Bushnell Street, (best access off North Main Street), Essex. (Essex Land Trust).
  3. Just in time for back-to-school shopping Walmart stores throughout Connecticut will be reducing their clothing prices. Walmart advised investors this week that the rise in consumer inflation dictated the retail leviathan reduce its prices for clothes. The ploy to move inventory off the shelves while Connecticut residents' buying power is getting hammered by high gas and food prices will benefit customers at all 33 Walmart locations in the state. "The increasing levels of food and fuel inflation are affecting how customers spend, and while we've made good progress clearing hardline categories, apparel in Walmart U.S. is requiring more markdown dollars," President and CEO Doug McMillon said in a news release.
