A Letter From Chester's First Selectwoman
An uplifting, yet cautious letter to the town.

CHESTER, CT — Choosing to celebrate progress, Chester's First Selectwoman, Lauren Gister wrote an uplifting, yet cautious letter to her fellow town's people:
Dear Chester,
Great News! After weeks and weeks of approximately one new case per day in Chester, this week's number of new positive cases is------ ONE! Unfortunately, many of our surrounding towns have not had such a great week - but I choose to celebrate whatever progress we've got!

In other news, the process of vaccinating our residents is well underway. Our local health district (CRAHD) has given first vaccinations to several thousand people over the last few weeks and are operating the Old Saybrook clinic like a well-oiled machine. This week, part of Chester's Long Term Recovery Committee has begun calling and assisting eligible residents under Phase 1B in registering and making appointments for vaccination. Currently, most first responders, health care workers and residents over the age of 75 are able to make appointments and be vaccinated. There is generally no restriction as to location - appointments can be made at various clinic locations across Connecticut.
A Word of Caution: There is a lot we still don't know about the virus and the vaccines. What we do know is that the protection of the vaccine does not happen immediately. It can take two weeks or more for the benefit to be realized - some from the first dose, more from the second. Additionally, even if you have been vaccinated and have protection against the virus, you still may be able to transmit it to someone else. Please remember to maintain COVID safe procedures even after receiving the vaccine.

Be well,
