Morning, everybody! I'm back with your new copy of the Essex-Chester-Deep River Daily. Follow along to find out everything you need to know about what's happening around town...
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the afternoon. High: 77 Low: 65.
Here are the top stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:
- Though unemployment levels remain high, don't let that deter you; many local employers throughout Essex-Chester-Deep River are still searching to fill openings on their staff. Whether you're looking for full-time or part-time work, opportunities are still out there. Each week, Patch and ZipRecruiter compile a roundup of the latest local jobs added in the region. - There is something new in the Ivoryton center! According to a Facebook post on the town of Essex's page, Essex's Traffic Authority has approved a new stop sign at the intersection of Main Street and Summit Street near the Ivoryton Playhouse. The Public Works Department has installed the new sign but is keeping it covered so residents may get used to the idea of a new traffic sign on Main Street. The sign will be uncovered in two weeks making it an official stop. This intersection will then become a three-way stop which will be much safer for traffic speed and pedestrians. (Facebook)
- Will Essex allow a cannabis dispensary? Like many other towns throughout the state that are similar to Essex, the town regulations that will oversee the potential opening of cannabis dispensaries are being explored and discussed by town officials who are trying to figure out what is right, and what is best for Essex. Currently where things are at, is that there is a moratorium put in place by the Planning and Zoning Commission on applications for cannabis dispensaries for recreational and medical use. However, that moratorium will expire on Dec. 31, so discussions revolving around the issue are ongoing. The town's Cannabis Subcommittee, in conjunction with the Economic Development Commission, has drafted outlines of possible regulations but nothing has been concretely decided and further research on the subject is currently underway. A public hearing on the matter will be held sometime in the future. (Zip06)
