🌱Looking For A New Furry Friend? + Another Fair This Weekend

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Essex-Chester-Deep River.

Hello, everybody! It's me, Karena Garrity, your host of the Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town.

First, today's weather:

Nice with plenty of sunshine. High: 79 Low: 59.

Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. "A 17-year-old was issued a summons for their alleged involvement in assembling a hateful message on a sign board in Deep River, state police said Thursday. The teen was issued the summons Wednesday, charging them with breach of peace and ridicule on account creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality, or race. State police conducted a "lengthy investigation" and used forensic evidence, video footage, and witness interviews to figure out exactly what happened. On the morning of June 1, state troopers got a report of a vulgar, racist message posted on the sign board at Devitt Field. Letters from a message about the local Memorial Day parade appeared to have been switched up to write: 'Trump 2024,' followed by two derogatory words," according to the Fox61 Hartford. (FOX61 Hartford)
  2. Celebrating its 110th year, the Haddam Neck Fair will be held this weekend. The four-day hometown fair will kick off Friday night. According to the New Haven register, the weekend fun will include a 5K road race Sunday at 9:30 a.m., live music performances and other entertainment daily, traditional tractor and truck, as well as pony and horse pulls. A wide variety of food trucks will be selling everything from tacos and baked goods to ice cream and lobster. There will be midway rides for all ages and a host of agricultural displays and livestock." Hope to see you there! (New Haven Register)
  3. Do you want to add a new member to your family and do something good for the Essex-Chester-Deep River community at the same time? Perhaps it's finally time to adopt a pet! Local shelters in Essex-Chester-Deep River and environs have dogs, cats and other kinds of pets ready and waiting to be adopted. Across Connecticut, there are thousands of dogs, cats and other animals of all ages without a home — and many of them are located in your area. On a search for a lovable new four-legged friend? Consider starting at a local facility like Labs4rescue, where Bexley the dog is waiting patiently. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed. With help from our friends at Petfinder, Patch has compiled this week's list of animals available for adoption near you. Whether you're looking for cuddles or companionship, one of these animals could be the perfect fit for your family. (Essex-Chester-Deep River Patch)
