🌱Lyme Disease Vaccine May Be Available Soon + Animals Need Homes
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Essex-Chester-Deep River.
Hello again, Essex-Chester-Deep River! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Essex-Chester-Deep River Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in the community today.
Now, today's weather:
Pleasant with sunshine. High: 83 Low: 63.
Here are the top three stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:
- If you're hoping to add a fuzzy ball of love and affection to your life, you should check out these animal shelters in the Essex-Chester-Deep River area for a pet to take home.
Millions of pets and other companion animals are surrendered to rescue organizations each year nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Shelters often look after other animals in search of a permanent home as well, including pigs, birds and even horses. However, only around half of all shelter pets are adopted each year, ASPCA data shows. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Essex-Chester-Deep River area — are still waiting for their forever homes.(Patch) - Good news for nature lovers in the area! There may be a new Lyme Disease vaccine hitting the market soon. According to an NPR article, "If it were to gain regulators' approval, it would become the only Lyme disease vaccine available for humans in the U.S. But it's expected to take years for the potential vaccine to reach the market. If the phase-three study is a success, the companies say, they would likely seek official authorization in 2025." (NPR.org)
- Middlesex Community College will present Saturday "Enroll-in-a-Day" walk-in registration events, August 13 and August 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for new and continuing students to get help with admissions, advising, course registration, and financial aid for the fall semester.
