ESSEX, CT —For the past 20 years, Ann Thompson has been a mainstay at the Essex Library and she is excited to start off 2021 with a new title; she is now officially the Assistant Director of Public Services.

Thompson, whose former title was Head of Adult Services, has not had a title change in the past 12 years.

“Although my new title does not have terribly different responsibilities, there are some new aspects that I will now be dealing with,” said Thompson. “I will have a little more responsibility for all library wide things, not just the adult collections and I will take an eye to the overall collections of the library and how they are serving our public. In addition, I will still be overseeing the adult collection development and acquisition. I will kind of be a jack of all trades.”

Thompson added, “There is nothing like a new job title to add a little excitement and energy to the workday.”

In addition to Thompson’s new title, Diane Simoneau also got a new title for the new year, she is now the Manager for Technology and Donor Services.

Although the new titles do not come with enhanced paychecks for the ladies, hopes are that there may be room in the 2021-22 fiscal budget, which begins in July, for a bit of salary bump for the new elevated titles.

Congratulations Essex Library staff!
