Marking the historic British raid on Essex ships during the War of 1812 , the Essex Burning of the Ships Commemoration Parade and Concert will take place beginning at 2 p.m. today in downtown Essex along Main Street. Don't miss out on this iconic Essex event, which will include 10 fife and drum corps and a lot of history. (Middletown Press)
  2. A senior at Valley Regional High School, Sammy Pierce, is having a stellar year as a catcher on the Warriors Softball team. With an impressive batting average of .575 this spring, Pierce is making her last season on the team count. (Zip06)
  3. The country has hit the million mark and that's not a good thing. As of Friday, it's been reported that over one million lives in the country have been lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to this somber milestone, Connecticut, with more than 10,800 dead, lowered its flags to half-staff. According to Gov. Lamont's direction, the U.S. and state flags throughout the state will remain at half-staff until sunset on Monday, May 16. (Patch)
