• Jacobson, Gonzalez, Bancroft: Recent Death Notices From Chester, Essex & Deep River (patch.com) — Residents in Essex, Chester and Deep River are remembering several neighbors whose lives spanned military service, engineering, community volunteering and local industry. Among them is Essex resident Steven E. Bancroft, a highly decorated military aviator who later built a long civilian aviation career, alongside longtime Chester civic leader Nathan Jacobson and other deeply rooted community members.

• CT has a plan for a cherished 963-acre forest protected from development. Here's why there's opposition to it (courant.com) — Plans for logging and habitat management at The Preserve directly affect the portion of this 963-acre forest that lies in Essex, alongside Old Saybrook and Westbrook. State officials say selective timber harvesting will improve forest health and biodiversity, while some neighbors fear environmental damage from heavy equipment and habitat disruption. A conservation committee including Old Saybrook and DEEP must still approve any silviculture plan.

seeds it drops every fall. Wow! The number of native bees and other pollinators it attracts is incredible! And the plant itself smells pleasant-… (Nextdoor Essex Village) - Wonderful customer service.
