Virtual 5k Run/Walk In Essex To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day
In place of the annual Essex Go Bragh Parade, this year the town will celebrate St. Patrick's day with a virtual 5k Run/Walk.
ESSEX, CT — In an effort to keep some semblance of tradition, Essex Park and Recreation is hosting the first-ever virtual Essex Go Bragh 5K Run/Walk to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The Park and Recreation Department Director, Mary Ellen Barnes, announced earlier this month on the Facebook page, that, "after careful consideration, the Re-Open Essex Committee, along with the Park and Recreation Commission, has decided to cancel the Annual Essex Go Bragh Irish Parade because of health concerns related to COVID-19."
The post read, "While we are disappointed to have to cancel, we are acting in the interest and well-being of everyone. This outcome was not reached lightly. Rather, we weighed all options and concluded after receiving valuable input from health officials and viewing what is happening throughout Connecticut."
The Essex Go Bragh Irish Parade will return the next year led by Grand Marshal Robert Russo and will be held on March 19, 2022.

In place of the parade, and in an effort to start a new, fun tradition, the virtual 5K Run/Walk is slated to take place the week of St. Patrick's Day (March 15- March 21). Those participating are asked to send a video in, of them finishing the race, or post a picture of the route they ran to the events page.
All participants that sign up through the Essex Park and Recreation website will be eligible to receive a tee shirt that can be picked up at the town hall.
