ESSEX, CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, CT — News from the Valley Regional High School nurse was sent out in the VRHS weekly e-mail. The following information made the "hot topics":

"Students 16 and up are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine! Students 18 and up are eligible for all three vaccines! Two weeks after a single dose of J&J or second dose of Pfizer/Moderna you DO NOT HAVE TO QUARANTINE IF EXPOSED TO COVID!!! You would have to quarantine if you were to become symptomatic.
- Appointments might be difficult to book. Keep trying! If your student is 16 or 17 make sure that the site offers Pfizer, this will most likely be a hospital setting. Attached please find the link for location options within a 20-mile radius. Vaccine Locations
- Please do not come to school if you are experiencing signs or symptoms of illness.
- If a student-athlete tests COVID positive or is exposed to a positive case of COVID, CIAC mandates a 14-day full quarantine from sports, they can return to in-person learning after completing 10 days of the quarantine if asymptomatic. Students must continue to self-monitor days 11-14 for the development of COVID, if symptoms develop, the student is to immediately self isolate.
- Post-COVID infection CIAC requires physician clearance for sports participation along with a return to play protocol.
- Proper fitting masks, good hand hygiene and social distancing remain the most effective tools for the prevention of viral spread and infection.
TRAVEL: Please note that the CDC and DPH are discouraging any non-essential travel to reduce the risk of cross-contamination in and among communities. VRHS is asking individuals and families to be mindful of the travel recommendations and be considerate that everyone’s level of risk tolerance for exposure is different. In-person learning is our priority and as a community, we need to protect our ability to remain in the classroom. CT Travel Recommendation."
Please consider performing a symptoms check using the CDC Symptom Checker A collaboration of community partners and the Community Health Center are offering free COVID-19 tests at Saybrook Point. For additional details please see the attached flyer: FREE Coronavirus Testing."
