2 Dogs Found Dead In Home After Fairfield Fire: Authorities

Two other dogs survived the blaze, authorities said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two dogs were found dead after a house fire Saturday in Fairfield, while two other dogs survived the blaze, according to authorities.

Firefighters responded around 8:15 p.m. to the scene in the 300 block of Greenfield Street and arrived to find flames showing from the front of the house, authorities said, adding there was fire in the basement and attic, but no people were home.

Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to let out heat and smoke, and used four hose lines to battle the blaze and protect a neighboring house, according to authorities.

“Initial water application on the fire was delayed because the two normally closest engines were already engaged on other calls,” according to a news release from the Fairfield Fire Department. “Other challenges included the initial fire hydrant not working, single-digit temperatures, and heavy winds.”

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to control the blaze, authorities said, and the house was left uninhabitable.

A neighbor who had tried to shovel snow onto the fire and inhaled smoke was treated and released by medical personnel, according to the department.

The dogs, both living and dead, were found in the house and released to family, authorities said.

The Fairfield fire marshal’s office is being assisted by the state fire marshal in investigating the cause of the blaze, according to the department.
