📰 News we're reading

1. Fairfield Grant Helps Local Café Relocate From Unquowa Road (patch.com) — Fairfield residents can still find the longtime organic café, now called Clean Slate, at its new Sherman Street location after it received a $5,000 town micro-enterprise grant. The Fairfield-funded program, backed by federal HUD dollars, helps very small local businesses like this one stay in town, upgrade equipment, and create jobs for lower- and moderate-income residents.

2. Fairfield Ludlowe & Warde High Schools Among Top 25 In CT: U.S. News & World Report (patch.com) — Fairfield parents and students can celebrate strong showings for both Ludlowe and Warde high schools in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, which evaluate college readiness, test performance, and graduation data. Ludlowe placed 18th and Warde 23rd statewide, with both schools earning especially high marks for advanced coursework and college preparation.

3. Former Fairfield official gets 3 years in prison for threats to kill police officers (ctpost.com) — A former Fairfield town official has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for repeatedly threatening to kill Fairfield police officers, including via text and calls to local dispatch. The case follows earlier animal cruelty-related convictions and probation violations, and highlights serious safety concerns involving local law enforcement interactions in and around Post Road and the Fairfield Police Department.

4. Non-Equity Auditions in Southbury, CT (broadwayworld.com) — A non-equity audition listing includes Fairfield among many locations hosting tryouts for cruise performers and stage managers. Fairfield-area artists interested in cruise ship work can look for local audition options alongside other cities nationwide in this broad casting call.

5. West Nile virus reported in 22 Connecticut towns (wfsb.com) — West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes across 22 Connecticut towns, with Fairfield County among the areas showing the highest activity so far this season. While no human cases are reported yet, state scientists urge Fairfield-area residents to use repellent, cover up at dusk and dawn, and stay vigilant through at least the end of September.
