Bed Bath & Beyond Is Closing Its Fairfield Store
The Fairfield location joins four of the retail chain's other Connecticut stores slated to close in 2023.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Bed Bath & Beyond, the troubled home goods retail chain, will close its Fairfield store in 2023, according to company officials, making it the fifth Connecticut store to close this year.
The other Connecticut locations to close in 2023 are in Southington, Wethersfield, Enfield and Hamden. Last year, the chain closed stores in Stamford and Waterford.
Connecticut's latest closures are part of 87 Bed Bath & Beyond stores to close in 30 states, reported USA Today.

Last August, Bed Bath & Beyond officials said the chain would close about 150 of its more than 900 locations nationwide, as it sought to climb out of its financial hole. The company has defaulted on some loans, and it reportedly is looking at restructuring its debt in bankruptcy court.
"While the decision to close a store is always a difficult one, local customers can find their favorite products at our nearby location in Norwalk, as well as online at bedbathandbeyond.com and our mobile app, where they can take advantage of digital services such as Same Day Delivery, curbside and in-store pickup, and free ship-to-home for purchases $39 or more," the spokesperson said.
Mark Barnhart, Fairfield's Director of Community and Economic Development, said the town will help the Kings Highway building owners find a new tenant.
"Yes, we have been monitoring this location given Bed Bath & Beyond’s ongoing financial troubles, restructuring and bankruptcy filing, so the news doesn’t come as a complete surprise," Barnhart told Patch. "We will work with ownership, as we always do, to identify and secure a new tenant for this location. Fairfield remains a very attractive location for retailers, so we are hopeful that it won’t be vacant for long."
